DELL, EXCOM EDUCATION ANNOUNCE 10 OF AUSTRALIA’S MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANIES AS PART OF GLOBAL SMALL BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARD
Award Recognises Small Businesses that Use Technology to Better Serve Customers
SYDNEY, July 16, 2008 – Dell, ICSB and EXCOM Education today announced the 10 Australian finalists for the 2008 Dell Small Business Excellence Award¹. “The No. 1 reason small businesses use technology is to better serve customers², and no one is doing that better than this year’s 10 finalists,” said Joe Kremer, vice president and managing director of Dell Australia and New Zealand. “These companies are applying technology in innovative ways to break new ground and raise the bar.”
“We’re proud to recognise their success, help tell their stories and ultimately see one of them compete on a global stage,” said Mr Kremer. “Research shows that on average small firms are twice as innovative per employee. The companies who entered demonstrate that fact,” said Graeme Newey, Director of EXCOM Education. “Not only did we see innovation, but entrepreneurship, agility and a deep passion for their business and customers. We are proud to showcase the finalists and emphasise how technology can help grow their businesses.” Once named, the 12 national winners from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States will be considered for the inaugural global Dell Small Business Excellence Award worth US$50,000 in Dell technology and services. All national winners will be announced by September, and the global winner will be announced in the US fall 2008.

ReadingDoctor Software in the Northern Territory
30/5/08
The LearningScience team is very excited to be involved in a government project evaluating ReadingSounds 1 Pro as a tool for improving the literacy skills of isolated indigenous students.
I have been asked by the NT government to present ReadingSounds 1 Pro and provide training and development in using the program to teachers and support staff at various indigenous schools around and in Alice Springs, and have been doing so this week. I have been touched by the very warm and welcoming response I have received and would like to thank the staff and students at the various schools I have visited for making this such a rewarding and memorable trip. I hope you find ReadingSounds 1 Pro to be as valuable a tool as I have in your teaching of reading! Please contact us if you have any other questions regarding the software that I was not able to answer during my visits.
I would also like to thank the team running the project for all of your questions, enthusiasm and interest in ReadingSounds 1 Pro, for the help and support in travelling to the various communities this week and for the great conversations regarding literacy improvement and indigenous education. It has been an insightful and fascinating experience.
Sincerely,
Bartek Rajkowski

ReadingSounds 1 (Professional) has been very well received and we have had excellent feedback about the program. Although the program has been designed to be intuitive to use, there are many features which are very useful and not obvious at first glance. Please be sure to read the manual to get maximum value from ReadingSounds 1 (Professional).
If you are a parent using the software with your children, video tutorials and guides on using the program effectively are in development, and will be available for free on this website. If you have questions regarding program features or wish to know how to set up specific activity types, please post the questions in the forum and we will endeavor to answer them as soon as possible.
We intend for the
ReadingDoctor Forum to become a centre for discussion on literacy development. We intend for it to become a means for literacy professionals to discuss literacy instruction, and we hope it will be a great support for parents of children learning to read, as well as for parents of children with literacy difficulties. The forum will undergo significant expansion in the coming months.
Once again, thank you to all of the generous people who have assisted in bringing ReadingSounds 1 (Professional) to this point. The software has been in development for four years, and we are very excited to be able to finally offer it as a unique and valuable teaching tool.

LearningScience Pty Ltd Receives Federal Government grant
15/9/06
LearningScience Pty Ltd, has received a "Commercialising Emerging Technologies" (
COMET) Australian Government grant to support the finalisation and release of our software.
Here is the official statement from Minister for Industry, Ian Macfarlane:
Innovative Software Helps with Reading and Writing
An innovative teaching software platform which automatically adjusts to a student's progress and performance will receive $64,000 to bring the new technology to market. Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane today announced LearningScience Pty Ltd, of Adelaide, was among four South Australian companies sharing in $878,488 through the latest round of Commercialising Emerging Technologies and Commercial Ready funding. Mr Macfarlane said the company had a range of ReadingDoctor software products based on scientific learning to support effective learning. “The software uses an innovative, self-adjusting ‘scaffolding’ support system which fades away as the student improves while providing extra focus and re-enforcement of weak areas or skills,” Mr Macfarlane said. “It has multiple end-product applications including literacy and numeracy-based programs, language skills development for language-impaired children and adults, English as a second language, and music teaching.”
