4. Our purposes for using personal information (and GDPR lawful bases)
We collect and use personal information for the following purposes:
to provide our services or information to you (GDPR legal bases: performance of a contract; legitimate interests);
for record keeping and administrative purposes (legitimate interests; legal obligations, where applicable);
to provide information about you to our contractors, employees, consultants, agents or other third parties for the purpose of providing goods or services to you (performance of a contract; legitimate interests);

5. Student data (children and school use; COPPA)
Our products are designed for use by educators and parents with children. Accounts are created and managed by adults (e.g., schools/teachers or parents/guardians). We do not knowingly allow children to create accounts directly.
For school-directed use in the United States involving children under 13, we comply with COPPA. Where permitted, schools or school systems may act as the agent of the parent/guardian to provide consent for classroom use. We limit collection to information reasonably necessary to provide the service, do not use children’s personal information for targeted advertising, and do not disclose it for commercial purposes to third parties other than service providers. Parents/guardians (or schools acting on their behalf) may review, delete or withdraw consent for a child’s personal information by contacting us (see Contact us below).
We do not sell student personal information. We use student data only to provide, maintain, secure and improve the ReadingDoctor platform and to support students, educators, parents and research in its use.
6. Disclosing your personal information
We may disclose personal information to cloud providers and other service providers, contractors and advisers who assist us to operate our services. Some recipients may be located outside Australia. Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure that the recipient will handle it in a manner consistent with this policy and applicable law. For GDPR-covered individuals, where required we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers (e.g., standard contractual clauses) and will provide further detail on request.
7. Security
We take reasonable steps to ensure your personal information is secure and protected from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Our IT systems are password-protected and we use administrative, technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Data retention
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law (for example, record-keeping obligations). Where an account is closed, we will delete or de-identify personal information within a reasonable period unless we need to retain it to meet legal, regulatory or contractual obligations, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements. Schools or parents may request deletion of a student’s personal information at any time.
9. Links
Our website may contain links to other websites. Those links are provided for convenience and may not remain current or be maintained. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those linked websites and we suggest you review the privacy policies of those websites before using them.
10. Your rights to access and correction (APP 12–13)
You can request access to the personal information we hold about you and you can ask us to correct it if you believe it is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request. In some cases we may be unable to provide access to all information (for example, where providing access would unreasonably impact the privacy of others or is subject to legal privilege). We will respond within a reasonable time.
To request access or correction, please contact us (see Contact us).
11. Additional rights for individuals in the EEA/UK (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or UK, ReadingDoctor Pty Ltd is the data controller for your personal data collected through our website and platform. In addition to the rights above, you may have the right—subject to conditions and exemptions—to:
request deletion (erasure);
request restriction of processing;
object to processing (including direct marketing);
request portability of your personal data; and
withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (this does not affect processing prior to withdrawal).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. We encourage you to contact us first so we can address your concerns.
12. Marketing communications
You can opt out of our marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us. We may still send you non-marketing communications (e.g., service, security or administrative messages).
13. Complaints
If you wish to complain about how we handle your personal information, please contact us (see Contact us). We will investigate promptly and respond within a reasonable timeframe. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) or, if applicable, your local data protection authority.
15. Cookies and analytics
We may use cookies and similar technologies to improve user experience, analyse site performance and assist with security. You can control cookies through your browser settings. We may use Google Analytics to collect and process data, including when you use third-party websites or apps. For more information, see Google’s explanation of how it uses data from partner sites.
